WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL HOURS?

Classes begin at 8:45 a.m. and dismissal is at 3:25 p.m.

DOES YOUR SCHOOL RECEIVE ANY GOVERNMENT FUNDING?

CCS is independent of any government funding. Our school is funded through a family tuition plan and through donations. As a registered charity, a portion of the tuition paid to CCS may qualify for an official receipt for income tax purposes. The CCS office calculates the amount eligible using a formula based on Canada Revenue Agency regulations. The actual amount of the receipt that can be issued depends upon individual family situations and the financial costs of providing education as reported on the annual audited financial statements. Receipts are issued in February following the close of the previous calendar year.

DOES YOUR SCHOOL HAVE A FINANCIAL AID PROGRAM?

It is our desire to help every family who would like their children to attend a Christian school. Through donations and fundraising we are able to support a Tuition Assistance Fund that can provide financial assistance when needed. Contact the school for more information.

DOES YOUR SCHOOL PROVIDE BUS SERVICE?

CCS provides bus service, at an extra cost, for those families who desire it. While we try to be somewhat flexible with the bus routes we cannot guarantee front door pick up.

WHAT CURRICULUM MATERIALS DOES CCS USE?

CCS strives to provide students with an education that is rooted in the Word of God and prepares them for a Christ-centred life. We offer a comprehensive program of studies designed to meet the needs of all learners, using materials from the Ontario Alliance of Christian Schools and Christian Schools International, as well as a variety of both Christian and non-Christian sources. We are currently moving towards Project-Based Learning as our design principle for teaching and learning which will provide greater opportunities for our students’ learning to be both personalized and communal.

HOW DOES THE CCS CURRICULUM COMPARE WITH THE ONTARIO PUBLIC OR SEPARATE SCHOOLS?

The curriculum at CCS provides a strong foundation for every learner. It meets, and sometimes exceeds, the expectations outlined by the Ministry of Education.

CCS is registered with the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training, and our high school is inspected on a bi-annual basis by the Ministry. Our students follow the curriculum mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Education, which is uniquely filtered through a Christian worldview. Students graduating from the high school receive the province’s Ontario Secondary School Diploma. In addition, all high school students take two Bible courses as well as selections from Our World and Our Society course groups, leading to the CCHS diploma.

IS CCS ASSOCIATED WITH A PARTICULAR CHURCH OR DENOMINATION?

No. CCS is an independent, non-denomination Christian school with students from over 30 churches enrolled.

WHO OWNS AND OPERATES THE SCHOOL?

CCS is an independent entity that is operated by the Calvin Christian School Society of Chatham and governed by a Board of Directors who are elected from supporting parent and community members.
